Enhanced Report Writer

In this release, several enhancements have been introduced to the Report Writer to increase the stability and make it more customizable. One of the remarkable change is the advancement of Report Engine, which improve the stability and performance. Besides, standalone products such as VP-UML, Agilian and DB-VA now supports switching between the main application and the Report Writer, making it able to perform modeling and report editing simultaneously.

Thanks to the advancement of Report Engine, the Report Writer is much robust than ever before. Most, if not all, problems causing Report Writer to crash or terminate abnormally are fixed. User can enjoy report editing without worrying losing data resulted by abnormal termination of the Report Writer.

For standalone Visual Paradigm products which supports Report Writer such as VP-UML (SE/PE/EE), Agilian and DB-VA (JE/NE/HE/PE), Report Writer will open up without locking the product as background. With this change, user can perform modeling as well as the report editing simultaneously. More important, changes made in the project will reflect in Report Writer’s Diagram Navigator and Model Explorer. One can refresh the report immediately after editing the project.

Model templates used by the Report Writer are now opened for customization. Users can find the existing template files under %VP-SUITE-INSTALL-DIR%/resources/Report. Users can edit the existing templates, and even create their own templates to suit their report specification.

Editing of template can be done directly by modifying the template file content. Creating new template involve updating %VP-SUITE-INSTALL-DIR%/resources/Report/Default/index.xml. Users are advised to create template by duplicating existing file and modifying content instead of typing from scratch.

Notice that template editing should be done when Report Writer is closed.
