Enhanced Floating License Server
Starts from VP Suite 2.3, our floating license server is further enhanced to make it easier to manage and offer users more flexibilities that ever before.
Viewing Floating License Keys
In older version of the floating license server, license key information like the number of keys, the product and edition of each key, and the keys that are currently available are hidden from the users.
In the new version, you can open the Key Manager (select menu
Tools >
Key Manager... in VP-UML), then select
License Keys >
Floating License >
Configure... in the Key Manager.
Click
View Keys... next to a host.
In the opened dialog box, the keys of the selected host (server) are shown, also the product, edition, version, available keys and total number of keys are listed for each entry.
You may even select an key entry to view the users and the corresponding computers that are using its keys.
Importing/Exporting Floating License Keys
In older version of the floating license server, Visual Paradigm products cannot be run without connecting to the float license server. Now you can take advantage of the import/export floating license keys feature to let the keys work with our products wherever you are.
Exporting Floating License Keys
Open the License Key Manager, select menu
License Keys >
Floating License >
Export Floating License....
Open the
.vplls folder at your user home directory, you will find the file named
exportedFloatingLicenseKey.vpl. This is the exported floating license key file. Note that the exported key will be removed from the floating license server repository, other users will not be able to use it via the floating license server.
You can copy this key to another computer and import it into the Key Manager of a Visual Paradigm product to run it, provided that its series and edition match the key, and there is no need for connecting to the floating license server.
Importing Floating License Keys
After exported the floating license key, make sure you import it back to the floating license server when you have finished using it, so it can be available to other users.
Ensure the exported key file is in the .vplls folder of your user home directory.
Open the License Key Manager, select menu
License Keys >
Floating License >
Import Floating License....
In the
Import Floating License Key dialog box, select keys to import and click
OK.
The selected keys will be imported back to the floating license server repository.
Product Selector
The product selector utility lets you know the Visual Paradigm products with available keys in the floating license server, and you can select one to launch it.
To enable product selector, you must select the
Create Shortcut option of
Product Selector while installing VP Suite.
Then you can open product selector from the Start menu or from the shortcut in the installation folder (the floating license server must be started first for the product selector to work).
The product selector shows all Visual Paradigm products with available keys in the configured floating license server.
You can click Select Server to re-configure the floating license server, or click Refresh Server if the configuration has been modified outside the product selector.
To start a Visual Paradigm product, select one in the list and click
Start.
Administrator Email Notification
Administrator can configure the floating license server to send email notification when user trying to start a product that has no available key.
To configure administrator email notification, start the
Floating License Configuration.
Advance to the
Administrator and Mail Server step, enter the email and mail server information.
After configured the administrator email, the administrator will receive email notification once there are users failed to request keys from the floating license server.
