Quick Connect

The resource-centric interface in Visual Paradigm products is a helpful feature that it dramatically increase the efficiency of diagram editing, especially for making connections between shapes. However, for a complex diagram it is often infeasible to make use of resource-centric to connect with a target shape. In the new version of our products, the quick connect feature is introduced to overcome this problem.

Animated Demo

Using Quick Connect

  1. Click once on the resource that you want to create connection.

  2. The quick connect pane is shown, which shows <New Class> in Destination shape by default.

  3. As the name implies, if you press the Enter key when <New Class> is selected, a new class is created as the destination shape of the new connection.

  4. If you want to connect with an existing shape, press the Up/Down arrow key, all shapes in the current diagram that belong to the destination shape type of the selected resource are shown.

  5. You can even type all or part of the target shape name to filter the items in the list. Wildcard characters * (all combination of characters) and ? (any one character) can also be used.

  6. Just like our jump to shape feature, if you selected a shape in the list and hold for one second, this shape will be “spotlighted” in the diagram. The quick connect pane will be repositioned to avoid overlapping with this shape if the Auto position option is selected.

  7. After selected the desired shape, press the Enter key. A new connection will be made between the source shape and the selected shape.
